Coral and Silver Antique Poison Ring, Free Sizing, Beautiful Open Work

What we love about this ring. - Free sizing is a plus and we only have one! Poison ring were used by royalty, spies like Mata Hari. Victorian industrialist s even used the to secretly slip poison into the food and drink of those they wished to be rid of. They were used to Shanghai sailors in old San Francisco by administering sedatives and by prostitutes in old New Orleans to knock out their customers and relieve them of the there watches, jewelry and money.

WE HAVE NOT CLEANED THE RING. WE WILL HAPPILY POLISH IT AT YOUR REQUEST. We can also just polish the top of the silver and inner band leaving the darker vintage patina in the recesses if you plan on wearing it. That is what I suggest, but your call.

This is REAL high-quality, natural, no dye coral, and the cost of this ring is based on the large coral cabochon and fine open work. These were usually made in China or France, this coral piece was made in China with meticulous detail. It would be difficult to import a piece of coral this size, color and quality for the cost of this ring. You are only paying for the fine piece of coral and it is large. This can be a mens or women's ring. If unusually large or small sizing a small fee may apply.

This is an older 1800's to very early 1900's (turn of the century) poison ring with excellent open silver work and a huge piece of natural coral worth quite a bit now that exports of the gems are being limited due to the deaths and ravaging of the coral beds. We could remount the coral into gold or platinum and sell it for a good profit but we feel it would be a shame to dismantle it. There are knock offs of this ring but few are so well made they could survive and function as long as this piece. A tiny latch keeps its compartment shut and is easily opened with the flick of a finger.

We will size it for you free. You can actually see the tiny hinges in the magnified photos and this ring still functions though please don't use it for it's intended use. In the 1960's and 70's and 80's these rings were used to hide cocaine and pills and have even been used to smuggle things (like diamonds) in and out of countries so not matter how you look at it this ring can be a trouble maker.

But that being said what a wonderful and beautiful piece of history and a great conversation piece or simply to wear as jewelry. A photo could be added to the inside if you want a more legal approach to using the hidden compartment.
